Kimrin knows he has virtually no chance of making the Denver
Broncos with Pro Bowl kicker Jason Elam in front of him.
Still, Kimrin made sure to get noticed. Kimrin hit a 65-yard
field goal and Jarious Jackson solidified his spot as Denver's
third quarterback, leading the Broncos over the Seattle
Seahawks, 31-0. Kimrin, a Swedish kicker the Broncos brought
to training camp while waiting for Elam to sign a contract,
thrilled the crowd with a 65-yard boot as time expired in the
first half. "I thought we were going to take a knee and run
the clock out, but then they said `field goal.' I said, 'OK,
I'll go for it,"' said Kimrin, who once made a 70-yarder in
practice. "I had nothing to lose. Sixty-five, if you miss,
it's still fine. Perfect snap, a good hold and the line was
there. I had my best kick ever, probably." The crowd stirred
as Kimrin lined up for the kick from his own 45-yard line,
then roared as the ball sailed through the uprights with a few
yards to spare. He was mobbed by teammates as he ran toward
the sideline after the kick. Elam hit a 63-yard field goal in
1998 to tie Tom Dempsey for the longest in NFL history.
Kimrin's kick won't be recognized because exhibition games do
not count in the league record book.

 Tuesday and Wednesday
will be the acid test for crew chief Dennis Connor,
driver Jack Sprague and their new Haas CNC NASCAR
Winston Cup team. The duo, which plans to make their
2002 Winston Cup debut later this month in the
Protection One 400 at Kansas Speedway, will test this
week at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C. And
after a less-than-exemplary performance at a Lowe's
test in May caused the new team to cancel its planned
debut in the Coca-Cola 600 at LMS later that month,
they hope this session will tell them exactly how much
progress they've made this summer.
